Chief Financial Officer

Role Outline:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as part of the Executive Leadership Team. The position is accountable for accurate reporting of financial results and managing the company’s financial affairs and manages a finance team that includes a Controller. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist  in the formulation of the company’s strategy and provide strategic vision and direction for the financial success of AXYS
  • Managing the financial reporting for the organization. This includes monthly and annual financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, 5 year financial plans and all statutory financial reporting
  • Analyzing variances in the financial reporting
  • Providing sound financial support and insights to enable the ELT to make critical business decisions
  • Prepare financial results and insights to present with the CEO to the Board
  • Direct and manage the daily operations of the finance department
  • Maintain, evaluate and recommend improvements to the accounting processes, software and internal controls of AXYS
  • Reviewing all formal finance related policies and procedures and develop and maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with appropriate accounting standards
  • Contribute to policies and procedures for corporate responsibility, ethical business practices, gift acceptance, cyber security and privacy legislation
  • Ensure accounting software addresses current needs and plan upgrade requirements for the future
  • Managing and overseeing the taxation affairs of the organization and liaising with the external tax firms for specialist advice to ensure that all domestic and international tax reporting, payments, VAT tax refunds, and other related tax activities are performed in compliance.
  • Managing and overseeing the cash flow of the company and ensuring it has the appropriate treasury controls
  • Managing foreign currencies and hedging activities when appropriate
  • Managing the external audit and relationship with external auditors including reviewing audit working papers, overseeing audit interactions, reviewing audited statements and presenting to the Audit committee and Board
  • Ensuring the organization is compliant with accounting standards and disclosure requirements.
  • Managing and overseeing the company’s banking and borrowing arrangements
  • Managing and overseeing the company’s financial systems and internal controls
  • Recruitment, training, mentoring and development of staff
  • Serve as a member of the Risk Committee and provide risk management to ensure the business has a solid risk framework in place
  • Provide financial oversight for commercial decision making from tender analysis, margin analysis, pricing analysis etc.
  • Advising and implementing best practice methods to increase revenue and reduce costs
  • Work with the VP of Operations to ensure accounting data is backed up, secure and disaster recovery is tested on a regular basis
  • Perform special assignments and any other duties as required
Skills & Attributes:
  • 10+ years’ experience in a senior financial managerial position with a proven record of success
  • Sound decision making skills based on accurate and timely analyses
  • Results oriented and metrics driven
  • Exceptional time management and able to solve problems
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate and manage staff at all levels
  • Ability to lead by example and demonstrate a strong sense of integrity, ethics and dependability
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Confident to present results to an audience
  • Strategic thinking, planning and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to collaborate with upper management to organize, plan and achieve company financial goals
  • Advanced computer software skills, including Excel and financial reporting software
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Master’s level degree preferred, e.g. MBA
  • Professional accounting qualification  CA or CPA
