Electronics Technologist

The Product Development department requires a talented Electronics Technologist. You will work within a highly talented and motivated team to develop sophisticated environmental monitoring systems for projects deployed worldwide.

The Electronics Technologist role includes responsibilities for team leadership, engineering, program
management, and department development.

Key Responsibilities

Integration & Design

  • Integration of electronics and data systems for ocean technology platforms, including surface buoys, moorings, subsurface and seabed systems
  • Integration of electrical power systems for ocean technology systems with a focus on managed off-grid energy systems deriving power from a multitude of renewable and backup energy supplies
  • Electrical integration for a wide variety of instrumentation including meteorological, oceanographic and telemetry equipment
  • Execute AXYS procedures for design and development, control of non-conforming product, including dependency support for sales, field service, and customer service
  • Create or update documentation for the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of buoy systems
  • Integration and configuration of custom systems to meet client specifications
  • Collaborate, provide technical feedback and guidance to the electrical, mechanical, software and data design, and production teams
  • Implementation of applicable industry standards to meet regulatory requirements and drive safety, quality, interoperability, and efficiency-based design outcomes
  • Lead assembly, testing and troubleshooting of products as required

 

Project Management

  • Manages or assists with a small active set of projects. Monitors project execution and maintains project deliverables, budgets, schedule, and status
  • Ensures that project requirements are clearly identified and stakeholders are kept informed of project status
  • Maintaining strong communication functions between stakeholders and departments for design review and design closeout requirements

 

Department Development

  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining processes for the department under ISO 9001:2015
  • Carries out or assists with department strategic initiatives
  • Establish and align to standards (industry/regional/global) for engineering design
  • Assist with information capture for department capital budget & resources
  • Assist with engineering information resources – supplier and vendor relationships, 3rd party contractors and knowledge resources

General Requirements

  •  Holds a diploma in Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • Experience in supporting design projects, delivering systems for the marine environment
  • Holds a thorough understanding of product design principles and standards
  • Experience with formal documentation management, excellent reading and writing skills, and proven task/project management success is required
  • Create documentation, including modeling, assembly work instructions, and check sheets; the creation of BOMs, and working/fabrication drawings
  • Excellent communications skills, with strong written and verbal communications
  • Focus on quality in all areas of work; detail-oriented, as well as good analytical skills are essential
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers
  • Ability to ask for help, make decisions, and drive issues to resolution
  • Knowledge or experience with quality assurance (ISO9001) processes

 

Technical Requirements

  • Ability to create detailed electrical drawings/schematics in DraftSight
  • Experience with managing designs in ERP/MRP systems
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation, e.g., manuals, work instructions, and check sheets
