The Production Engineering Co-op role is an exciting opportunity to obtain valuable experience in a fast growing, international clean-tech product manufacturing and service company. The right candidate will join the Manufacturing team in Sidney, BC.  The role is hands-on and is a great opportunity to gain experience on all areas of a production environment. You will work and learn from highly talented and motivated team building environmental monitoring systems for projects world-wide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with assembling, testing, and troubleshooting components, electro-mechanical assemblies and systems at all stages of manufacturing
  • Assists with integrating subcomponents into final products, verifying and documenting the performance of the system.
  • Assists the supply chain team with preparing and kitting work orders and with dismantling and packing systems
  • Assists with drilling, cutting and other light mechanical hands-on duties to meet production demand
  • Liaises with Product Development to transfer new technologies to the Production department
  • Recommends manufacturing processes and product improvements

  • Be enrolled in a Co-op program or equivalent with at least one term of applicable work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).

  • Ability to maintain a high level of performance, quality and attention to detail in a dynamic environment

Technical Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience using templates, jigs, fixed and hand shop tools to align, fit, and install electrical and electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies
  • Skilled with mechanical assemblies in verifying dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, applies engineering process when diagnosing and troubleshooting complex systems, and apply best practice testing procedures
  • Clear understanding of mechanical/electronic principles.
  • Must have the ability to interpret engineering and technical drawings.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD software; part, assemblies and file management.
  • Competent with Microsoft office programs.
  • Knowledge of computers, peripheral equipment, and related devices
  • Ability to work with engineers to develop and document set up and test procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, BOMs and technical work instructions

Other Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in a machine shop and an understanding of manufacturing processes 
  • Experience with troubleshooting electronic assemblies using electronic test equipment: oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Experience Soldering PCB including Through Hole, TH, BGA and SMT packages at IPC-610 standards
  • Familiar with file management systems and documentation control.
