Job Description:

The Fleet Management Department requires a detail oriented Network Operator for our office in Sidney, BC. You will work within a highly talented and motivated team to monitor and operate sophisticated marine environmental monitoring systems for projects world-wide. The Fleet Management team operates to maximize system up time and data availability for our customers projects. Your mission will be monitor the systems and respond to alerts. You will be working in a production environment handling data collection, configuration management and monthly client reporting. Your experiences will also drive network enhancements and contribute to continuous improvements to our processes and operator tools.

AXYS Technologies Fleet Management team operates a fleet of environmental monitoring systems deployed world-wide. Our systems collect and transmit meteorological and oceanographic information to a cloud based data repository for additional processing and end client access. The majority of our systems are deployment on floating platforms; however, we also have land based and subsurface systems within our managed fleet. Remote access to our systems is through a combination of broadband and low bandwidth telecommunications channels depending on the system and the deployment location.

AXYS offers flexible work environment for this position with the possibility of remote work as well as in office work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide network health investigation using network monitoring tools and software
  • Carry out standard operating procedures for system monitoring and operation
  • Initiate incident response process when system performance targets are breached
  • Investigate and analyze cause for incidents to bring incident to close
  • Supervise an active queue of incident tickets to bring to resolution and close
  • Manage parts allocation to specific systems to close incident tickets and prepare for routine maintenance events
  • Assist with the creation of monthly performance reporting for Fleet Management systems
  • Carry out testing of software applications, automated report generation and data processing algorithms
  • Curation of archive datasets for long term storage
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams on additional features or design improvements to operator dashboard and troubleshooting tools
  • Carries out any other reasonable tasks when requested by their supervisor.

General Requirements:

  • Detailed and methodical approach to tasks to ensure early detection of system issues and intervention.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English, additional languages an asset)
  • Willingness to take responsibility and driven to meet deadlines.
  • Great work ethic and the ability to work closely with a team or independently.
  • Commands excellent problem solving and deduction skills
  • Detail oriented individual

Preferred Experience:

  • 1-3 years in a helpdesk or network operation center
  • Basic understanding of IoT technologies, including control, data acquisition and communication.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation e.g., manuals, work instructions, and check sheets
  • Basic understanding of Linux and Windows Operating systems
  • Experience analyzing time series data an asset
  • Experience and understanding of meteorological and oceanographic data
  • Experience case mgt solutions, e.g. Salesforce or others
  • Basic programing knowledge (Python preferred)
