Senior Electronics & Firmware Engineer

Job Description:
The Product Development department requires a talented Senior Electronics and Firmware Engineer. You will work within a highly talented and motivated team to develop sophisticated environmental monitoring systems for projects world-wide.
The Senior Electronics and Firmware Engineer role includes responsibilities for design, program management and department development.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering
- Design of electronics and data systems for ocean technology platforms, including surface buoys, moorings, subsurface and seabed systems
- Design of electrical power systems for ocean technology systems with a focus on managed off-grid energy systems deriving power from a multitude of renewable and backup energy supplies.
- Provide electrical and data integration for a wide variety of instrumentation including meteorological, oceanographic and telemetry equipment.
- Execute AXYS procedures for design and development, control of non-conforming product, including dependency support for sales, field service, customer service.
- Driven to meet client objectives and to diligently work to clarify and establish requirements where they are unknown.
- Create or update documentation for the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of buoy systems.
- Integration and configuration of custom systems to meet client specifications.
- Collaborate, provide technical feedback and guidance to mechanical, software and data design teams.
- Implementation of applicable industry standards to meet regulatory requirements and drive safety, quality, interoperability and efficiency-based design outcomes.
- Lead assembly, testing and troubleshooting products as required.
- Responsible for the management of an active set of projects. Oversee project execution and maintain project deliverables, budgets, schedule, status.
- Ensuring project requirements are clearly identified and stakeholders are kept informed of project status.
- Coordinate team with respect to project demands and facilitating program management functions.
- Maintaining strong communication functions between stakeholders and departments for design review and design closeout requirements
- Support overall capacity by establishing and maintaining external resources including contract workers and internal swing resources.
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining processes for the department under ISO 9001:2015.
- Carries out or assists with department strategic initiatives.
- Establish and align to new or emerging standards (industry/regional/global) for engineering design.
- Assist with information capture for department capital budget & resources.
- Assist with engineering information resources – supplier and vendor relationships, 3rd party contractors and knowledge resources.

- Leadership experience within multidisciplinary development teams and demonstrated ability to lead teams to successful outcomes.
- Experience in managing design projects, delivering systems for the marine environment.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for embedded systems design
- Experience with the design and optimization of off grid energy systems combining multiple energy sources to produce long term sustainable power supplies
- Senior level programming/debugging skills. Preferred experience with programming in C for embedded systems, and Python for data analytics and scripting/automation.
- Experience writing low level applications to run on a microcontroller or microprocessor
- Experience with microcontrollers and low-level hardware interfaces, e.g. SPI and I2C, working with standard peripherals such Flash, RAM, ADCs, EEPROM etc.
- Experience using and understanding of communications systems such as serial, Ethernet, CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 802.15.4 etc.
- Experience with Analog/Digital debugging tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
